www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/slash-refuses-credit-for-sweet-child-o-mine_1089779Former GUNS N' ROSES guitar ace SLASH refuses to accept credit for the band's biggest hit SWEET CHILD O' MINE - insisting he came up with the famous opening solo by accident. Slash's riff is ranked among the best ever by rock enthusiasts - but he prefers to laud frontman Axl Rose for moulding it into a hit single. He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "There was not a lot of forethought to Sweet Child O' Mine, that riff. It was just something I was messing around (with), and stumbled across this interesting pattern. "I've got to give credit to Axl Rose and the other guys in the band for really turning it into a song". Isn´t it a bit ironic coming from the guy who dissed this song (among other amazing "Axl"/GNR hits)for years?

I've read that this morning too, but what I think about this is that again, Slash's words are very deep thought here. Knowing how manipulative he is, he has some reasons to say that.
That riff might have come out of messing around with the guitar, but even though, that riff is one of the greatest riffs ever in rock music, so it's not only messing around with the guitar.
SCOM was mostly Axl's song, mostly made by him. Of course, together with the whole band, but the main contribution goes to Axl. I don't know what's Slash's intention here, it's a bit strange, considering the situation.

I think it was the classic frenemy statement full of ulterior motives. I made some people on another website VERY UPSET! He forgets to add in this interview that he always hated the song.

Maybe he wants to keep the fire on, to never give up to this war that fans created between him and Axl. there are already some comments all around the internet like "Everyone loves Slash. But Axl..."
By the way, I adore how all the people I see around have 2 faces. The majority of people now say this or that, and the next moment they change faster than the wind's direction. I hate this kind of people with all my heart, they are made to be despised. At least by me surely they are. And I am talking about fake people, fake media whores and boards whores, some of them from newgnr.com who I didn't think to be such ridiculous assholes and bitches.

Hey welcome! Yeah i can imagine what board u r talking about Farid: he hasn't been honest when he blamed Axl for everything during the past 10 years. He hasn't been honest on his book. Why would he be honest now? He is 2 faced. And he was a very talented guitarist when Axl was beside him telling him what to do

What type of ulterior motives could he have? We all understood that some things are dead and buried so.....

Well its true, Axl should have more of the credit, lets imagine that Axl hadnt been there, that riff would had passed just as a playful guitar excersise from Slash. As simple as that. We know it, Axl knows it, Slash knows it- maybe Perla didnt know or realize it among some fans, and he is just setting the record straight for them. He could very well have "ulterior" motives behind it, I truly wouldnt care since he is speaking what i believe to be true. Axl was behind that becoming the riff and the song it did. And this is no way should diminish or belittle whatever input the rest of the band had on it.... cause if we are truly interested in finding what sparkled that magic back then was the feelings Axl had for Erin. And to this day Axl's Feelings are still what feed the Guns and the Roses-
