Duff: I’m not back on drugsMcKagan forced to comment after surgery announcement leads fans to think he’s using coke again By Martin Kielty  Former Guns n’Roses and Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan has been forced to comment on speculation he’s back on drugs – after news of a medical procedure led people to believe he’d started using cocaine again. McKagan recently underwent surgery to deal with sinus problems, which were caused by the lifestyle of his younger years. But he insists he hasn’t started using again, and has thanked fans for their goodwill. He says: “Thank you all for the very nice well-wishes regarding my sinus surgery recovery. “I do want to make it clear for those of you who may be wondering… The surgery was a result of scar-tissue build-up from my cocaine use which ended sixteen years ago. “I have not relapsed on cocaine.” McKagan recently explained how, when he moved back to home town Seattle in 1993, his addictions were so out of control he didn’t think he’d live much longer. He said: “The house had a basketball court and an old, leaky roof. I never thought I’d use the basketball court. And I remember thinking that the cedar-shake roof that I put on the house, rated to last 25 years, would outlast me. “Today it’s looking old and somewhat worse for the wear. I guess I do too. To hell with how I look from the outside – I’m giddy just to be here.” Meanwhile, in his most recent Seattle Weeky column, McKagan has slammed the music industry’s reaction to the introduction of CDs in the late 1980s. He says: “When CDs first came out I’d just started making real money in Guns ’n Roses. I had the best turntable, amps and speakers money could buy. Slash and I went to buy some CD players and CDs. I remember filling up a whole shopping cart , re-stocking everything I had on vinyl. “When I got home I realised it all sounded like shit compared to my vinyl. thank you Illusion!! and thank you Angeles!! thank God he is ok!! I think this is a good example for kids you can go out of adiction like him and be a healthy person, a responsable father, a good example but there is always consecuences for what you did, like this one. so, kids, you better stay away from drugs. and NO you are not cool for using it, no matter what your "friends" say. If you want to be cool, be smart and original I love you Duff!! take care  |
