Slash to release Paradise City with Fergie

Slash has said he wants to leave his days as a member of Guns N' Roses behind him as he prepares to release his first solo album.

"I just feel for people that don't seem to get it. All things considered, it's been a really long time, and everybody's moved on," he told BBC 6 Music.

"At the same time I appreciate that I was part of a band that had such a huge impact and touched so many people, and I feel bad for them that it's not around -- but it is what it is ..."

His forthcoming solo album will be released on Roadrunner next spring and features the vocal talents of Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Lemmy, Fergie and Andrew Stockdale.

He said he had taken his time to lift the lid on the heavyweight guests appearing on the record. "I've been very low key on this, because I was waiting for all the releases for all the different singers, but some of the cats are out of the bag. There's a lot of people on the record."

He added, "It's just nice to be in charge of my own destiny, even if it's just for one record. Just not to be in a group situation, and at the mercy of what everybody as a whole feels, but being responsible for my own decisions and having the final say."

I know that opinions about Slash are decidedly mixed. Some people never liked Guns N’ Roses, or hate Slash’s Snakepit, or hate Velvet Revolver, or whatever – I bet that of the five people who remember what the fuck Slash’s Blues Ball was, at least two or three of them hate that, too.

But nothing – and I mean absolutely, unarguably NOTHING – that Slash has ever done has been as bad as this re-recording of “Paradise City” with Cypress Hill and Fergie Methfacerson:

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, DID ANYONE REALLY THINK IT WAS OKAY TO BEGIN ANY VERSION OF “PARADISE CITY” WITH A RAPPER SAYING “YES YES Y’ALL?” IS THIS ONE OF THE BEST HARD ROCK ANTHEMS EVER, OR A FUCKING LIMP BIZKIT SONG?!?! HOW THE FUCK DID FERGIE END UP NOT BEING THE WORST PART OF THIS?!?!

If I was Duff McKagan – who actually wrote the main riff for “Paradise City” – I would kick Slash in the nuts. And then, when he was doing on the ground clutching his bruised testicles, I’d kick him again, and demand that this recording can only be released if done so under the title “Paradise Shitty.”

This re-recording, which makes me wish I was a fan of Disturbed or Drowning Pool so that I’d feel a little more dignified than I do for supporting Slash, comes from a two-song CD single that was released in Japan this week. After the jump is the other song from the single, “Sahara,” which features some Japanese vocalist I’ve never heard it. It’s also a terrible song, but at least it a) doesn’t rape any of my childhood memories and leave them weeping on the cold tile floor and b) has a guitar solo that sounds like every other Slash guitar solo, which is okay because I love Slash guitar solos.

Exactly this morning I listened to it! I was shocked for good. When the song began, with all those weird sounds, electronic things and everything I was like oh my god...Then the only good thing is Slash's guitar. Otherwise, if I didn't know it was Slash who came up with the idea of such a version of the song, I would have cut my had it was Linkin Park! I swear to god! It's the most awful thing I have ever heard in my whole goddamn life.

Axl, if you could see him right now....

Oh no.. this is the worst thing I've ever heard. I have nothing, absolutely nothing good to say about this version. Maybe the little part of the guitar riff but they changed that one too as it became comercial that way. Guns had that heaviness in every guitar riff and here's nothing. Absolutely nothing but a stupid Linkin Park wanna be song. I am just ashamed of what Slash is doing and hope Axl won't give a shit at listening to it. And I am sure he won't give a fucking damn on it. Axl knows very well his value and worked since the '80s to not ruin it. Slash is a great guitarist but a money whore which is destroying his value day by day more

I've listened to it yesterday...well I don't think it's THAT bad, but the adjective that came to my mind was: "poussif" (I don't know how to translate it properly...if someone can help thanks in advance!)

I would translate "poussif" with "short of breath".
It's nothing special - I like the original better.
