www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/02/16/2067870/qa-with-rock-guitar-legend-slash.htmlQ&A with rock guitar legend Slash Q. Was the Super Bowl a big deal for you?It was not something on my list of things to do. Not that I really have a list. I was definitely honored to get the phone call. Q. A lot of people were surprised Fergie appeared on your album. Do you think the public underestimated her?People build up in their minds an image or impression of who or what somebody is and have a hard time in letting go of it. It definitely surprised people. When that rumor came out they thought I'd gone pop or something. I heard Fergie sing some rock stuff a couple years ago. I had a song for a girl rock singer and she automatically came to mind. But people had so established Fergie as a pop diva type, which is reasonable to assume. They were really sort of shocked when they heard about it. Then when they heard the song they were like, oh, OK. With the rest of the record it was a lot of information for some people to digest - all the diversity. Q. Is it indicative of what you actually listen to?I listen to a wide range of stuff. I'm primarily a rock guy, but I'm drawn to emotional content and melodic content and grooves. I can listen to a lot of different kinds of music that one wouldn't expect me to listen to and be attracted to more of the musical, melodic side of it. Q. Was this record a different experience for you having the public aware of its development through Twitter?I did sort of log in what I was doing on Twitter, but I didn't really pay that much attention to what anybody was thinking. Q. For so long you were the guy behind the guitar, the hat or hair. Has social media let more of your personality or sense of humor out?I don't know. I don't really have an idea as to what I'm supposed to be from any kind of real perspective. People develop their own idea. The cool thing about Twitter or Facebook was it's given me a chance to reach out to anybody who is interested as opposed to having to issue press releases.... or leaking stuff out to reliable sources. It puts you more in control of your own promotion or just to be more square with fans in general. Q. When did you realize Myles was the guy for the tour? When he came in and did the second (song) I thought this is the only guy that could handle all this material...stuff from the solo record and Guns n' Roses and Velvet Revolver. Myles was just so capable. We didn't have any prior relationship. He happened to be on a break (from Alter Bridge). He accepted. At that point I only had two weeks to rehearse with a band and only a week of that I could spend with Myles. Q. Your experience with notorious singers is well known. Is personality something you consider?Beggars can't be choosers. The first most important thing is to find individuals who are musically capable and then you have to take into account whatever their personality is.... It's something you need to accept within reason if they play the way you want them to play. A lot of musicians are crazy and that's what makes them great musicians. Q. Where does Velvet Revolver stand on finding a new singer? There was truth to the rumor that we were looking at Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour), but then I left for tour. So there's nothing being done at the moment. No decision. Q. What about your new horror movie production company, Slasher Films? We go into production (on our first movie) this summer. I got into this by chance. I'm a huge horror movie buff. A friend of mine has a company called Scout Productions.... He suggested I produce my own movies under (his) umbrella company. I'm completely involved from script development to casting and location. Q. Will you be involved in scoring? That's the most obvious part. I definitely will be involved. Whether I play it or not depends on the movie and what it calls for. Q. What are your favorite horror films?I was raised on horror movies that started in the `30s, `40s, and `50s. "Frankenstein," "The Wolfman" and "Dracula." When the `60s came around there was "Night of the Living Dead." I saw it as a double feature with "The Exorcist." "The Exorcist" became my favorite. Then "The Omen" came out. It was great as well. (Recently) I liked "The Strangers." I wanted to do this because the horror genre has been dumbed down to being almost pathetic. It's a real predictable gore schlock. They're few and far between where they involve real scares or a psychological imposing kind of story or characters or villains with depth. That's what I miss and want to bring back. Q. The "Sweet Child O' Mine" solo seems to be one of the most botched on the cover band circuit. Do you think it's that difficult? When I do Guns’ songs in the set I do most of the solos live the way I recorded them. They were spontaneous then…. to make it sound exactly like the record it’s easy to screw it up

Source: www.bangkokpost.com/arts-and-culture/music/226924/still-slashingSourcE: www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=155405Bangkok Post recently conducted an interview with legendary guitarist Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES). A few excerpts from the chat follow below. On GUNS N' ROSES' song "Sweet Child O' Mine", the band's first No. 1 hit: Slash: "Obviously, [with] 'Sweet Child O' Mine', I didn't it was a big deal at the time. I just thought it was an interesting riff. I had no idea it was gonna be as iconic as it became. So you just have these riffs, and you just think 'oh, that sounds cool.'" On a possible reunion of GUNS N' ROSES' classic lineup: Slash: "Do you feel like you're the only person in this whole room who's thinking about that question on this planet? No. "It's been, what, 15, 16 years. No one in the original GUNS N' ROSES ever said, 'Let's try to put the band back together.' Also, it's all about [GN'R singer] Axl [Rose]. The reason that everybody left was because in the back of his mind I think that's the way he wanted it. So the reason why there's no GUNS N' ROSES was because of him. I've got nothing to do with it. I quit for the same reason that everybody did. So it's really his problem."
